The Rotary Club of Oxford Hills is proud to announce the 2014 Rotarian of the Year (ROY) is John Griffith.The selection committee, made up of the last 3 year's recipients, reviewed 15 nomination papers, and made their decision and choice based on several criteria: 1) Attendance 2) Club project participation 3) Community participation both as a Rotarian and as a non Rotarian 4) Promotion of Rotary within the schools and community 5) Committee involvement and follow through and 6) Club office held, quality of work, and committees chair. Some of the quotes used as 2013 ROY Curtis Cole made the presentation: "this person has been amazing to our club all year!” Another reminded us that “this person participates in ALL club projects.” Still another said that “everything he says he will do, HE DOES!” So congratulations to John Griffith. John is retired from serving Norway Savings Bank for many years as a loan officer. He resides in Norway with his wife, Shelley. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our long-time member, Jack Richardson. Jack passed away on Thursday, Feb 12 at the age of 73. He was an Oxford Hills Rotarian who served as Club President, and then Secretary for many years, among the many other things he did for our club. He was Rotarian of the Year in 2005. According to the funeral notice in the paper, there will be a private memorial service for the family in the spring. Our thoughts are with his wife, Kathy and their family during this difficult time. Rest in Peace Jack, you will be missed by so many.
What a great way to support the Oxford Hills Community by using funds collected from our "Road Tolls" to buy food and deliver it to 4 of our local food pantries!

Our Club will celebrate 30 years of doing the good of Rotary on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 5:30 pm. No morning meeting. It will be held at Tuscany Hall (formerly the Racquetball Club) 17 Olson Road, South Paris. We were awarded a Rotary Grant to help fund the new steel roofing job at the Alan Day Community Garden. Shown here are members during a work day. Many people from the Oxford Hills community benefit from the garden.
Several of our members joined 100+ other Rotarians and family members around the District for a Community Service Day Project at Camp Sunshine in Casco, Maine. Yard work, tree and shrub planting, flowers dug and replanted were among the many projects done. After the work was finished, a turkey/pig roast was enjoyed by all. The Oxford Hills Rotary Club is looking for good, clean, gently used items for their upcoming auction on Saturday, July 13 at 10 am at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. Acceptable items include wood furniture, collectibles of all kinds, tools, outdoor items, sports equipment, tools, antiques, jewelry, gift certificates and cash donations. Please, no major appliances, soiled or torn furniture, tires, computers, monitors or printers. If you or your employees, associates, family and/or friends have donations you’d like to make, or need items picked up, please call Curtis Cole at 461-3380 or Chris Summers at 577-8476. All proceeds help support the Oxford Hills Rotary Club projects including Dictionaries to all 3rd graders, May Day Play Day, Senior Cruise, Scholarships, Project Graduation, Holiday Food Baskets, Local Food Pantries and Students of the Month, to name a few.

Our club will host the Youth Exchange students for their annual 'Ski Weekend' March 7-10th. Thursday evening, 3/7 is the Pizza Supper at the Carter's in Oxford. Our regular breakfast will be held on Friday 3/8 so to meet and greet the students. They will be here for the weekend of skiing at Shawnee Peak and Carter's X-Country. If you can find the time, it is a great opportunity to meet these exciting, young adults and learn a little bit about their country, share a little bit about our country, and learn more about the Youth Exchange Program!
Mary Lou Burns has reminded us that Friday, March 1st is 'Read Across America Day' to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss! Let her know if you can spare some time to read to elementary students and share the joy of a good story with them.
Again this year, we are collecting for the Oxford Hills Coat Room. They are in need of any spare coats, sweaters, mittens, gloves, hats, scarfs, boots, fleece, snowpants and anything else warm! These can be for kids to adults. So clean out those closets and bring in your items. We will get them to Norway Laundry to clean before they deliver them to the coat room. Let's meet and exceed last year's goal of 100 items, we can do it!!

We are again selling our Rotary Cheese Wheels. They are 2 pound wheels of Vermont Sharp Cheddar cheese and are delicious! Each wheel comes packaged in a decorative box and are $17.00 each. The Oxford Hills Rotary Club in partner with the Norway-Paris Kiwanis Club held another very successful auction & flea Market. Both clubs would like to say 'thank you' to all the members for their hard work, all the businesses for their generous donations and the entire Oxford Hills Community for their continued support! Proceeds from the auction and flea market will benefit the many community charities and programs supported by these two service organizations.
The winner of the 2 tickets to see the Boston Red Sox vs The Tampa Bay Rays is Mike McDonnell. Congratulations Mike! The game is Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011 at Fenway Park, Boston, Mass., seats are in the Loge Section 129, Row LL (about 10-12 rows up-behind home plate!).
During the month of June the Oxford Hills Rotary Club passed the hat at every meeting to raise money to send to Joplin. The Club agreed to match the members donations up to $2000.00. The membership was able to send off a total of $2407 & $275=$2,682 to The Tornado victims!
The monies collected will be sent to the Joplin Missouri Rotary Club to be used directly for disaster relief.
Thank you to all who made donations to help out those less fortunate.

There was musical entertainment by the "No Name Banjo Band' along with juggling, and our own moon bouce for the kids. Thank you for your support of the Oxford Hills Community! During Governor Gary's official visit, George Rice was presented with the Unsung Hero Award for his tremendous support, compassion and long time dedication to the Ideals of Service Above Self. George is the only charter member that has remained with the Rotary Club of Oxford Hills since the very beginning.
George was recognized and honored for all the wonderful things he does, often behind the scenes and unheralded, both at the club and district level.
Thank you George, for everything you do for the Club and the District!
We did it!! During the month of January, 2012, club members cleaned out their closets to donate more than 100 jackets along with 29 hats and 19 scarfs to the Rightstart Coat Room!!
